Angels Fall First spreads its controls across infantry, ground vehicles, fighters and capital ships, and tells you about maybe half of them. This is the reference sheet — the defaults every other guide assumes. Everything is rebindable in settings; the / key even opens extra in-game help.

The keys that define the game

KeyActionWhy it matters
GTag targetThe spine of AFF: tags enemies, objectives, boarding targets; shows target health; feeds squad awareness; sets up context orders
C (hold)Command rosettaOrders for squads, vehicle accept/decline, context actions on your tagged target
FUniversal interactDoors, consoles, briefings, pickups, boarding, ready-up
EscTactical mapSpawn selection, orders, vehicle acceptance, situational awareness
F1Claim offered ship/vehicleCapital ship spawn prompts
Middle mouseGravity mode toggleThe flight-model switch in every flying machine

If you learn six bindings, learn these.

Infantry

KeyAction
WASDMove
ShiftSprint
GTag / spot
C (hold)Command menu
FInteract / pick up weapons
XToggle fire mode (weapons, explosives, mine/charge modes)
ZFlashlight
RReload — release the trigger first after full-auto
MousewheelZoom adjust on high-power scopes (7x)
/In-game help

Notes the game won’t volunteer:

  • Auto-reload only triggers if you release the trigger — holding the button on an empty magazine does nothing.
  • X switches more than rifle fire modes: it toggles MNL grenades between sticky and bouncing, CH8D charges between remote and proximity, and RID/MLI launchers between heavy/guided and light/dumbfire.
  • Right-click with CH8D charges draws the detonator; left-click then detonates all placed charges.
  • Hold left mouse to cook frag grenades (5-second fuse) and to load multiple MNL grenades.
  • Downed by a headshot with an Anti-Trauma helmet? You’re incapacitated, not dead — wait for a Multitool revive.

Squad and command

KeyAction
C (hold)Order rosetta — slot 1 is context-sensitive to your G-tagged target
Esc mapClick squad members → right-click objective to order
GTag first, then order “attack/capture my target”

Squad status lives top-right; red entries mean “no orders.” If your name tops the squad list, you’re the leader — the squad leader guide is the follow-up read.

Ground vehicles

KeyAction
WASDDrive
ShiftBoost
ZActivate shield / countermeasure
Middle mouseGravity mode (gunships) — off hovers, on flies fixed-wing
FEnter / exit
Number keysSwitch weapon systems (mechs carry two; one fires at a time)
Esc / CAccept or decline offered vehicles

Remember: rear armour takes bonus damage, and the Multitool repairs from outside.

Fighters and capital ships

KeyAction
Middle mouseGravity mode — off for Newtonian drift, on for aircraft handling
ShiftBoost (watch the right-hand gauge)
Q / ERoll
ZCountermeasure / shield generator
NCycle capital-ship subsystem targets (weapons, point defence, engines)
Number keysSwitch weapons — new pilots forget missiles exist
RReload
. (period)Change camera view
FBoard / dock (dropships: slow down at the hull until the yellow ring appears)
F1Take an offered capital ship

Flight HUD decoder: left gauge is engine power (negative = reversing), right gauge is boost, GR blue/yellow is grav on/off, CM blue/yellow is countermeasure ready/cooling.

Spawn screen

  • Pick a location first (ground: the one battlefield; space: a ship or station), then a deploy zone within it.
  • The bottom arrows on space maps cycle locations — you cannot spawn into open space, only into hulls and stations.
  • Squad-only locations (corvettes, destroyers, cruisers) appear only if your squad owns them.
  • Enemy ships appear as locations once your team holds a breach point aboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the G key do in Angels Fall First?

G tags whatever you aim at — enemies, friendlies, vehicles, objectives, boarding targets. Tagging feeds your team's awareness, shows target health under your reticle, sets up context orders via the C menu, and reveals breach points on boardable ships.

How do I switch flight modes?

Middle mouse button toggles gravity mode in fighters, gunships and capital ships. On behaves like an aircraft; off gives Newtonian momentum flight.

Can I rebind controls?

Yes, everything is rebindable from the settings menu. The defaults listed here are what tutorials and other guides assume.
